Synopsis
The
Glentarry Diet is a funny, strange, and offbeat story about business,
love, and most of all luck.
Karl
Clayton is a management consultant working in London in the early
1980s. His life and chances for happiness become inextricably
intertwined with his girlfriend Penny and her British working-class
ne'er-do-well friends. Karl needs a lot of luck to win the client
by saving it from certain business annihilation. Karl also needs
a lot of luck to get the girl and avoid his fate of living out
his life in Elmira, New York, divorced, alone, and working in
a dead-end job. That is, if he survives the hotel fire and IRA
bombing near the tube station.
Many
forces are allied against his success with either the client or
the girl, but unbeknownst to anyone, even Karl, Glentarry whisky
becomes his secret ally. With the help of Glentarry, Karl just
might save the day for himself, Penny, Penny's friends, and his
client.
